Set Up a Pottery Area in Your Home Today
If you’ve recently gotten into the hobby and art of pottery, who knows how hooked you are to it? Maybe you’re okay with just going to pottery classes, learning all about and practicing the art wherever they’re held, but if you’re not content with that, then you might need to set up a pottery area in your home already.
There are a number of things you must consider if you want to set up a pottery area in your home. First is space. How much space is already available? Will you need to have a room specially made for the purpose? You can do with a spare bedroom or a porch that you can enclose if you’re only a beginner or you don’t intend to gain profit from making pottery. Otherwise, you might need to use your garage or enclose a large space in your yard or even rent some space outside of your home to turn into your pottery studio. Consider storage space as well, not just your work area. Of course you’ll need a place to store your works of art, right?
Lighting is also very important. Ambient light, not spotlights, is what you need. Ventilation is also very important as firing produces a lot of toxic gases which can endanger your health if you don’t have much breathing space. That said, you also need adequate power supply for your kiln, particularly if it is electric. Water access is also essential when working with clay and cleaning up after. Clay and other pottery/ceramic materials must never be allowed down the drain as they will clog your plumbing and glazes can be tough for sewage systems to clean up and filter out. After consideration of these factors and planning how you will go about resolving them if you have any problems, you can now set up a pottery area in your home to perform your hobby in.
