Where can I buy lady bugs near Buffalo, NY?
I don't want to buy them online as there is no way to be sure of the quality (ie: they could be mostly dead). Anyone know where to find them? The last nursery I called assured me they had ladybugs, yet when I arrived they offered me a pottery ladybug. Help! My rose bushes are being devoured!
I'm in Buffalo (Riverside) and I've been to several nurseries to no avail in the past few years.
There are two online suppliers I've tried: Hirts (I should've known better) and these from gardensalive:

The ones from Hirts were almost all dead when I got them last week, so I'm going back to gardensalive, where they are more expensive, but there was ONE dead one in the bag when I got them last year....and I saw them everywhere...
Last year several of my neighbors told me my ladybugs were eating their aphids, too.
Until you get the bugs, try spraying the roses aggressively with water on the highest pressure setting you can manage without hurting the roses. Unfortunately for me, my aphids are on my blackcurrants, so I can't do that without damaging the fruit.
